Lauren McLennan, MSEd, Resident in Counseling
I’m a Masters-level prepared Resident in Counseling with a background in psychology and experience counseling pre-teens, teens, and adults. I have a background in applied behavior analysis working with children (5+) on the autism spectrum. My approach is person-centered, and rooted in multiculturalism. I work to create a supportive, non-judgmental space through unconditional positive regard and strengths-based interventions. I believe that no two people are the same, so I tailor my approach to meet each individual’s unique needs because there is no “one size fits all” in therapy.
I focus on empowerment and supporting client-generated solutions, recognizing that you are the expert in your own care. I see my role as one of support in your journey toward reaching your personal goals, offering guidance and resources as needed. I have experience working with individuals ages 12-55, addressing issues such as acute crisis/traumas, depression, anxiety, relational concerns, PTSD, complex-trauma, adverse childhood experiences, psychosis, schizoaffective disorders, and mood dysregulation. I have a passion for working with individuals on the autism spectrum and with other forms of neurodivergence such as ADHD and OCD. I integrate techniques from CBT to help manage anxiety and regulate emotions, as well as DBT strategies to enhance distress tolerance and emotional regulation.
An initial session with me will look like getting to know each other through question and answer style conversations to facilitate growth and vulnerability. Early sessions may focus solely on building trust, rapport, and comfortability within the therapeutic space. My goal is to provide a safe, comfortable space where we can work through discomfort together, using mindfulness, grounding, and boundary-setting techniques in real-time. I’m committed to providing a space where growth and vulnerability can happen at your pace, with a focus on empowering you to navigate life’s challenges, build emotional resilience, and find your way toward healing.
